SKILLS CHALLENGE RULES & GUIDELINES  

  1. Each team can only have a maximum of four (4) players each

  2. All teammates must consent to the tournament waiver before the start of the Skills Challenge start  

  3. Each team must pay the full participation fee 

  4. The Skills Challenge consists of a:   

  • A practice session with the Celebrity Coach(s) 

  • Allotted time on ice for the Skills Challenge session consisting of: 

  • Skill 1 RINK A – Relay Race

    • INSTRUCTION: Players use a mini stick to carry the puck through a series of weaves and then to a celebrity photo op where players can choose a prop from the prop box and pose for a photo with one of the pros before returning the props to the box and sprinting back to the finish line to hand off the puck and stick to the next player.

    • RESULT: First team to finish, wins.

  • Skill 2 RINK B – Best Shot

    • INSTRUCTION: Hardest Shot - Players are expected to shoot from the slot. Players can take 3 strides in before shooting. Under 10 years old, can take 6 strides in.

    • Breakaway Challenge - Playing as a team, each player takes a turn to score on a breakaway. Teams have 2 minutes to score as many goals as possible.

    • RESULT: Shot speed is calculated as a collective team average - team with the hardest shot average wins. Breakaway Challenge is

      calculated as a collective team total - team with the most goals wins.

  • Skill 3 RINK C – 4 on 4 Shinny

    • INSTRUCTION: After a 10-minute warm-up with the "coaches", teams will playoff against one another and attempt to score against some prime-time goalies. 8-minute games will be played in two, four-minute periods with a two-minute intermission. After games are completed a plus-minus will be carried over to a 5-minute shootout.

    • RESULT: Best plus/minus wins.

  • Skill 4 RINK D – FASTEST SKATER

    • INSTRUCTION: Players start behind the first timing gate, located on the goal line and proceed to skate as fast as possible to the other timing gate, located at the opposite end of the rink. First skate is without a puck, second skate is with a puck.

    • RESULT: Total time is calculated as a collective team average. Lowest time wins.

5. Equipment: 

  • Only CSA-approved hockey equipment is allowed 

  • Each teammate is responsible for providing all of their own approved hockey equipment 

  • Event organizers will provide each teammate with the official event jersey 

  • All players must wear CSA-approved helmets at all times when on the ice 

6. Marner All-Star Invitational is a non-contact event. Any unsportsmanlike behaviour and/or misconduct may cause ejection from the event with no reimbursement of participation and/or sponsorship funds   

7. Each Skill is scored as a team average. The highest overall weighted score determines the winning team. All judging and scoring are final.
